This Sunday (Feb. 18th), Fergie performed a unique rendition of “The Star Spangled-Banner” at the NBA All-Star game, which quickly became the laughing stock for people all around the world.
The performance became viral in a matter of minutes and is still #1 on Youtube Trending after 36 hours, and of course, the Internet made the worse of it. The backlash was actually so tough that the “Fergalicious” singer was forced to turn of her Instagram comments.
However, the 42-year-old pop star released a statement speaking out and breaking the silence on the matter. And while she didn’t precisely apologize, she left it very clear that she didn’t mean for the performance to be taken the way it did.
“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she told TMZ. “”I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone.”
“I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
